We enjoyed the Aire and Calder, but must remember next time,
to moor up at the locks. They are beautifully
kept, and its better than staying “out” on the navigation, as you don’t get
rocked about so much, when the big boys pass by.
Arrived Stainforth, after cruising the long very straight
new channel cut, with all its
eletric swing bridges and lift bridges. Stainforth seems an
odd sort of place, went for a meal at the New Inn, which was nice, and then lay
in bed and listened to a dreadful DJ at the working mens club opposite. Hadn’t seen that earlier otherwise may have
moved on.Anyway that DJ wants to get rid of his decks. He was rubbish, and the singing was
dire. Hey ho.
Stainforth and keadby canal, although straight is rather
nice, more like a river, with trees and big wide views.
To amuse ourselves, we decided to see how many fishermen we
could make smile. There was a big match
on. 26 smiles,24 blanks, 4 not sures, as
they were grubbing about in the bait boxes, and there were a couple of no-shows(
the pegs were empty).
It was a long day, arriving at Keadby about 3.15.
We will be out on The Trent at 2.30 on Sunday. Went and had a look, there is lots of water,
its windy and there are waves. !
and this. Its Spider T, and she was in the River Pageant. The navigator here at the locks is restoring a Humber Pilot boat that was used to make charts of the sea bed. its also a wow, to us ,anyway.
